Undo A Sent E-mail in Gmail

Posted by PCbasics on December 3, 2012 at 8:50 PM

Oh no! You have sent an email you were not finished with yet! I sent it to the wrong person! I didn't mean to click the send button! Many of these occurrences appear quite often when I am composing e-mails. The frustration of sending the e-mail to the wrong person can lead to a disaster or can cause big problems. With the "Undo" feature in Gmail, you won't have to worry about sending unfinished e-mails again. There is a lag time from when you click the send button, to the time the e-mail is actually being sent. By enabling the "Undo" feature, you are able to stop the e-mail from being sent as long as you do within the few seconds following your accidental click. This feature has saved me countless times and it should save yours too. To enable this feature follow step-by-step the instructions below:

  1. Log into Gmail from your web browser: http://www.mail.google.com/
  2. Click on the "gear" icon and then click "Settings"

  3. Click on "Labs" in the tab menu

  4. Scroll down and find "Undo Send" and click "Enable"

    Then click "Save Changes"

  5. Done!

Now all you have to do when you have accidentally sent an e-mail is to click the "Undo" button in the banner that appears after sending the e-mail. Enjoy!
